The elephant in the room ...

Can you answer these questions about Anthony Browne's drawing of the Elephant House at London Zoo?

What could the light source be in this picture?

How could the elephant be seen more clearly?

Would it make a difference if the elephant's skin was a different colour or its skin was a different texture?

Can you think of an animal which we may be able to see more clearly in the same amount of light?

    1. You're right, Melissa. We must be careful not to look directly at the sun as it can damage our eyes.

  2. The sun is so bright now but is just that there's not much sun shining in on the elephant.

  3. Maybe the light could be stage light
He could have seen more clearly if the light sunlight
If he had a different skin texture it would make no difference

    2. It would make no difference because his skin doesn't effect his eyes
A black cat could see clearly

  4. You would be able to see because there is light coming down the room you could paint the elephant yellow to see him more brighter with the light.

  8. 1.The light source might be a reflection of the sun.
2.The elephant could be seen more clearly if they move the elephant near the light.

  10. The light source will be the sun because its shining down the elephant we cant see the elephant clearly because of his colour its not reflective.

    1. Well done, David. The colour and texture of the elephant skin are not very reflective. What colours and textures make the best reflectors of light?

    2. The reflective of all colours will be yellow because it's bright making it have a transparent light to reflect. If it reflects to the to a wall and it will reflect to the bottom and it might do a zigzag light.

  18. you would paint it red so it would reflece on to the elphant to see him.
The light source could be a little light that only goes in the middle of the room.
You could move elphant to see him much more clear.
you would see a sheep much more clear and a zebro

  19. light is a reflexton it means/that somthinck/is on both sides. What you see in the mirro is what you look like that's a reflexon its what you look like

  20. I think its there to make elephant happy and not be scared of the dark and wouldn`t see a thing and crash and make a mess but in the light the people can see and the wont see the elephant and that would a shame. We could see the elephant if we put him more into the light so the people can see the elephant better and see him in lighter coulour and if the elephant was shiny sun will go through the window and reflect off the elephant and back to the window.

    1. Well done, Abdishakur! You have explained how light would reflect off the surface of the elephant. Why would the light reflect back to the window, do you think?

  21. I think the light souse could be that when the light gets on the pole in this picture it will not reflect i think the elephant could be seen clearer by the light up on the sky and we could move the elephant to the same place as the light and we could make the elephant change colour to silver it will be like a mirror so you can see your face though it will make a diffrents when you make a it will not make a diffrents about the texture.

    1. Are you sure the texture would not make a different, Shadequa? Think about the difference between the texture of a mirror and the texture of elephant skin.

  22. The light source in the picture is the sun if it was night we couldn't even see the elephant.
if the manger will accept it they could of put the elephant in a cage and the sun will go all over the elephant and people can see him clearly.
if the elephant was a different colour it won't make a difference.
if a pig was in there we would see the pig more clearly.

  27. I think the light sours in this picture is the sun.
I think we can see the elephant more clearly if there was lights everywhere like you are on a stage.
I think it will make a diffrence if the elephants skin coulee was white or pink.
I think an owl would see more in the normal light.

  28. The light can not show very well on the elephant because where he is standing is a pretty dark place there's only lines of the light that is shining through the cage

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think the light is the sun.

  30. The light can shine in if there was not a small hole in the big cage and the elephant is standing in the darkness
